My name is Susie
I was born in Appleton Wisconsin, the seventh of eight children in a musical family. I remember watching my older brother playing “Bumble Boogie” – fingers flying and thought, I want to do that!
The lessons didn’t start for real until the 8th grade, but I continued through high school and into college, having also taken up the oboe in the 4th grade.
I fondly remember those Mondays after school when I walked downtown to Heid Music, up to the second floor and tried to warm my fingers before my lesson.

Learning led to more learning.
I started teaching piano after returning from Germany having served with the 1st Armored Division Band in Ansbach. My first piano teacher shaped my idea for the best approach to piano lessons.
I believe the best method is still classically oriented. Scales, key signatures, time signatures and exercises. I do not use play by number systems. I teach intervals and basic music theory.
I am flexible in teaching style and approach, as each student is unique.
I work with each student to understand their needs, discuss everything we are doing, and let each student progress at their own pace.
Throughout my adult life, I have provided music at church. This includes accompanying choirs and small groups, participating in the worship team, and also working with children for various special services.
I have played for Christian Children’s Theatre, featuring kids from neighboring churches, third through eighth grade. I love working with children, and will do my best to help each student feel comfortable and provide constant encouragement.
I love the piano!

Having lessons and learning to play truly brings one of the greatest joys of my life. I want to pass along this knowledge and joy! I will come to your house, and will soon be able to teach out of my own studio.
